::::PORTA-POTTY SHANTY::::
PHYSICAL
-Physically, you could use it to relieve yourself after drinking hot cocoa.
SOCIAL
-It is the only place near the art shantys where you can in fact be anti- social.
PSYCHOLOGICAL
-With all of the people enjoying the shantys outside, you may come down with "stage fright"
Speaking of, check this site for a psychological thriller: http://cheeseburgerbrown.com/articles/Peers_of_the_Stall.html
::::SURVIVAL SHANTY::::
FANTASTICAL
-The Surivial Shanty was extremly immaginative. The man who got in the "plane crash" was basically an actor, sitting in the corner reading.
PSYCHOLOGICAL
-It may be too much for some people to handle. We watched one little boy step inside, become overwhelmed and say, "I want to go home now!"
SOCIAL
-There is a social fascination with being stranded somewhere via ship or plane. This interest has been going on for years, starting with "Gilligan's Island" and now with "Lost." However, characters from these shows fall in love and make the best of it. As far as we could tell, the man from the shanty got in the crash alone. It was a slightly bleaker, more real example of being stranded.

Art Shanty
1. The Black Box Shanty- (Physical, Social, Fantastical) We saw a performance by the Roe Family Singers. Very hip and folky band that made you feel the happy-go-lucky music. It was an intense concert because the shanty was so small, I felt like I was in a box car going nowhere, just enjoying the ride. Great atmosphere, fantastical set up, so genuine and entertaining.
2. The Postal Shanty- (Physical, Psychological, Social) Not so interesting, nothing to play with or watch. It was just a postal station where all the mail comes in to the shanty’s. The main man said the shanty’s get so excited when you send them mail, and people think it’s so fun to send them mail. You had a chance to send anyone you knew a post card from the postal shanty.
3. Survival Shanty- (Political, Psychological, Social, Fantastical, Physical) The only shanty that had all five themes. Political because of the reference to 9/11 as a plane crash and being in the newspapers. It is psychological because of the feelings of dispair and lonliness you felt when in the crashed plane. It gave me an overpowering feeling of loss and hopelessness. What would you do if you were lost and never found? It was fantastical inside; it was so real all the things inside were perfect. It was so small and dirty. Photos, newspaper clippings, clothes, were scattered everywhere it was somewhat grotesque. You could physically smell the oldness of the clothes like they’ve been there for a long time. You could use every sense except taste.
4. The Ice Museum Shanty-
5. Museum Shanty- (Physical, Psychological, Social) This shanty by far was my favorite. Museum Shanty wasn’t the name of it, but it was so visually stimulating I couldn’t stop looking at all the knick-knacks posted by people all over the walls. There were things so random such as family photos, movie tickets, condoms, collections of film slides, etc… I gave a small hot pink rabbit’s foot key chain. The guy said it was so awesome it needed a special place so he hung and stapled it above the front door. I love looking at random peoples random personal stuff, you can create the funniest stories from them.
